Every project begins with identifying the problem. Here the client requested a tool to be able to transport the climatisation unit in the lift.
The width of the lift entrance is smaller than the width of climatisation unit.
The only option: incline the climatisation unit.
Top priority: safe and lightweight transport device in inclined position
Second priority: perform the maintenance of the climatisation unit at 0.9 m height to maintain ergonomics.
Third priority: be able to transport the climatisation unit on the lorry via transport device.
STEP 1During this phase deliverables are agreed. A concept is designed to help the user understand our ideas and ensure we meet the requirements via dialogue.
Teamwork and priority oriented proposals are key to a good concept.
The features of this transport device will focus on a safe and lightweight inclination mechanism.
STEP 2A model helps to understand our concept and always brings useful information in term of costs, usability, and engineering.
Based on the concept, a model is designed to help the operator understand our ideas and ensure we meet the requirements via dialogue.
After the approval of the client, the manufacturing drawings and the parts list are prepared to request quotation.
STEP 3Here the experience of the mechanical engineer is key.
Manufacturing techniques, assembly and manufacturing drawings, as well as communication with selected suppliers are essential.
When the prototype is ready, a test in real time conditions is organised with the operator's team.
STEP 4Testing a tool in real time conditions includes operators, working processes and environmental factors.
The following prioritised are tested:
Step 1 - test the transportation in the lift without climatisation unit
Step 2 - test the installation of the climatisation unit on the transport device
Step 3 - test the inclination mechanism with the climatisation unit
Step 4 - test the transport in the lift with inclined climatisation unit
Step 5 - test the transport in the lorry with climatisation unit.
The proof of concept is achieved when the targets are proven, and the operators are satisfied with its handling.
STEP 5This solution enables a safe transport and user friendly maintenance of Faiveley's FGR and Noske-Kaeser's RVKE 220-D climatisation units.
Completion of instruction manual, work process update, validation and product data management closed this project.
