Mechanical tools

TARGETS

During the development of a mechanical tool, the following targets are our priority:

Improve safety

Your priority is our priority. We want our solution to improve this aspect and help the operator to work in safe conditions.

Reduce efforts

Having the right tool enables your daily task to be achieved with less effort and more efficiency.

Increase tool lifetime

We want your tool to last longer. We choose the right material for longevity or innovate with a new tool concept.

Improve quality

The right solution gives the opportunity to work smart. We want our solution to enable higher quality standards.

Increase efficiency

The right tool for the right place. We take your work environment into consideration and propose a process oriented solution.

Improve ergonomics

The operator is the focus during the development phase to create a user friendly solution.

Centring tool for tramway wheel bolts

Situation

Every project begins with identifying the problem. Here the client requested a tool to improve the quality by precision centring the tramway wheel bolts without loosing production time.

Top priority: improve quality
Second priority: maintain efficiency

STEP 1

Concept

During this phase deliverables are agreed. A concept is designed to help the user understand our ideas and ensure we meet the requirements via dialogue.

Teamwork and priority oriented proposals are key to a good concept.

The features of this tool will focus on precision machining for centring the bolts, quality, and on user friendly handling, efficiency.

STEP 2

Prototype

Here the experience of the mechanical engineer is key.

Manufacturing techniques, assembly and manufacturing drawings, as well as communication with selected suppliers are essential.

Only a few prototyes are ordered. When the prototype arrives, a test in real time conditions is organised with the operator's team.

STEP 3

Proof of concept

Testing a tool in real time conditions includes operators, working processes and environmental factors.

Prioritised deliverables such as quality and work efficiency are tested.

If any issues requiring a second prototype are discovered, we continue testing before placing the full order.

The proof of concept is achieved when the centring quality is proven and the operators are satisfied with its handling.

STEP 4

Solution

This centring tool for tramway wheels can be used in preassembly of the wheel bearing...

...as well as in replacement of worn out wheels directly on the tramway suspension unit.

Completion of instruction manual, work process update, validation and product data management closed this project.
